Heinz Baked Beans in Tomato Sauce Recipe

 1 16oz (1lb) can of navy (a.k.a. haricot) beans.
For the sauce:
 1 ½ cups water.
¼ cup Heinz tomato ketchup.Any good quality ketchup will do, but avoid cheap store brands.
1 tbsp tomato paste (or tomato puree).
 2 tsp distilled white vinegar.
 2 tbsp granulated sugar.
 ½ tsp onion powder.
¼ tsp paprika or smoked paprika.
¼ tsp black pepper.Fresh ground, if possible.
 ½ tsp salt.
3 tbsp corn starch mixed with the same amount of cold water.
1

Add all ingredients except the beans and cornstarch mix to a medium-large saucepan. Bring to the boil stirring continuously.

2

Add about half the cornstarch slurry and continue to stir until the sauce thickens. Add more of the slurry, about a tablespoon at a time, and mix until the sauce reaches the consistency you like. It shouldn't be watery, but also shouldn't be thick and gloopy.

Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

3

Drain the beans and add to the sauce. Simmer for another 10 minutes, stirring gently but frequently so that the beans don't stick to the bottom of the pan, then serve.
